It was 630 am December 13 a Thursday, when I found myself at Dunkin Donuts near GMA 7 waiting for Jeimi of Pop Talk TV to pick me up.
I ordered a cup of americano and a coffee roll to wake me up. It was difficult to choose an ootd for this special day because Jeimi advised that it had to be something comfortable .We we will be shooting from 7 am to 9 pm . At any rate, I just chose a loose pair of black pants topped with an away-from-the-body blue blouse,. Yes it was my most comfortable attire yet. No need to wear the girdle haha
Jeimi was on time. She picked me up in a van before 7am and soon found myself whisked away to the make up room inside the bowels of GMA network with my very own make up artist named “Hearty”. Make up room was cramped and full of costumes (?). At least 3 people can be “done” here.
While I was there I met Ms. Rhea Santos of Unang Hirit. She was so nice and very approachable. We got to chika a little bit (feeling close haha). Pretty soon though , Jeimi had to prompt me to leave. Our first stop awaits…
First stop
DC SUPER HEROES CAFE
Arrived at Mega a little after 9 am. DC staff were already waiting for us. Having been dolled up (face and hair) already, I can just relax while waiting for the 3 celebrities to arrive. Chef Arghie Chef A breezed in a few minutes later seemingly out of breath. He was warm and friendly. Turned out he is a chef at Friends & Family and we have common friends. Yay! Pretty soon we were chatting like old friends.
SANYA LOPEZ An up and coming bright star, this young lady with a beautiful face had no airs. She was a professional. She came in all made up. No primadonna ways that I can see and very friendly. All of 21, she had the confidence of a seasoned star but was obedient and respectful of the producer and the other people in the crew.
Kuya Tonipet A lot younger-looking in person, Kuya Tonipet came in around 11 am. Almost immediately, the energy level of the shoot rose. Crew set up had another run through. Producer Perry explained the script…
DC SUPERHEROES CAFE
DC Fans rejoiced late 2018 when the official DC Superheroes Cafe operated by Almerak Corporation in partnership with Warner Bros Consumer Products on behalf of DC Entertainment, opened this branch in SM Megamall.
This specialty-themed restaurant cum store is inspired by a wide collection of DC films, TV series, animated movies and DC Comic books.
Note the life-sized Justice League statues, the array of merchandise scattered all throughout and the servers decked out in DC Superhero inspired outfits.
One can not help but marvel as well at the interiors inspired by iconic landmarks in the DC universe such as the Oracle’s Watchtower in Gotham City and the famous Bat Cave.
DC Superheroes Food ‘s menu is something to be excited about . This is not your usual American fare where hamburgers, pizza and hotdogs dominate. The menu was crafted by no less than culinary geniuses Chef Mikel Zaguirre of Locavore. While drinks are by Chef Kalel Demetrio of Liquido Maestro.
Seared Tuna Salad
I loved everything about this salad. The fact that it is an all-in-one-meal makes it a winner in my book. I enjoyed seared tuna, reduced balsamic dressing, crisp greens, poached duck egg, sweet and creamy roasted garlic and the surprise ingredient … hummus. Scrumptious! I highly recommend you order this when you visit the resto.
Chicken Fingers Ala Negra P350
Presentation and back story was amazing. In keeping with the theme, this dish mimics the fingers of batman as he falls in the deep dark well. Indeed those chicken fingers coated in squid ink then deep fried with honey mustard and slaw on the side, did look like the gloved hand of Batman.
For P350 this budget-conscious mom note how generous the portions were. One black finger is fat and flavorful. Just order rice and this can be shared by 2-3 people
Zoom Zitti P380
Served in a small cast iron, this baked zitti topped with pepperoni , ragu and gratinated cheese hits the spot for those who want some delicious carbo loading. That tapenade ! Those who love olives like I do , will enjoy this dish. I wont be sharing this one if I were you haha.
Belly Buster P380
1/3 pound Angus patty served inside a freshly baked brioche bun with cheddar cheese , lettuce and their own secret sauce, was in one word awesome.
I have a weakness for made-from-scratch bread and Angus patty so this was an automatic winner for me. It did not hurt that the aroma wafting from the dish made me drool
12 hour Pork Belly P480
Visualize 12 hour slow cooked spiced pork belly served with pineapple glaze and smashed potatoes. All you need are bowls of rice. This dish was inspired by Baine who needs venom every 12 hours
The Joker’s Card P210
Again the presentation amazed. This is vanilla cake filled with lime curd and vanilla buttercream topped with milk and strawberry powder and made to look like a deck of cards. It would have been perfect if the joker’s card on top of the cake is edible too
The Swamp P240
Speaking of everything edible, this fitting sweet ending to a sublime lunch, did just that. Visualize a swamp like dish all filled with green moss, mud like soup (which was actually chocolate), real-looking mushrooms and soil, etc to make the dish look like a swamp.
In reality though, everything on the plate is edible. Think chocolate rocks, moss cookies, meringue mushrooms and hot chocolate soup. Incredible
Overall…
DC Super Heroes Cafe surprised and amazed with its unexpectedly good food and drinks. The attention to detail is awe-inspiring. The consistency to keep up with the theme is outstanding. Hope they can sustain this so DC Super Heroes fan can have somewhere they can go to where all their senses can bask in the ambiance of the DC universe.
This is definitely a must try for everyone . Who knows they may make a convert of you too
