After several attempts at trying to dine in Din Tai Fung, we finally pushed through with lunch one Sunday last month. It was PiggingOutOnSundays as usual and our family of 7 including the 82 year old pa-in-law was on the prowl anew for a different place to dine in while in Rockwell. The piggery fortunately were in the mood to eat Chinese food and the hubby and I were not outvoted this time. Yes majority wins in our family . It was still early so there was no queue. We easily got a table and started ordering the following :
Mushroom Wontons with House Special Spicy Sauce
P195 6 pieces
This was easily a favorite. I loved how silky the skin of the wontons were . The mouth feel was sensational. The sauce had just the right kick but not too overpowering. I shall order this again
Pork Xiao Long Bao 5 pcs P160
No surprises here. Its the classic xiao long bao. I waited a bit before biting into one so as not to scald my tongue
Pork Chop Fried Rice P295
This was the 82 year old Pa-in-law’s order. Normally when he does not want what he ordered, he ‘shares” his plate. This time though he was really quiet and finished his plate all by himself. So I guess the pork chop fried rice was a good call
Steamed Shrimp and Pork Shao Mai
10 pcs P395 5 pcs P200
They looked so pretty sitting there like 10 flowers staring up at you. But I didnt like it that much.Skin was too thick for me.
Crispy Shrimp and Pork Wontons P180 6 pcs
This was another favorite and a perfect starter. Quite addicting
Stir fried Organic Spinach with Garlic P230
I loved how green the spinach were and the umami flavor was there.
Black Lava Buchi P75 3 pcs
I really love buchi. The black color of the filling though almost turned me off.
Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk P90 2 pcs
I would have really preferred a thicker bun. This one was simply overpowered by the liquid salted egg yolk filling. So not a fan.
SUMMARY
Overall although their food was generally good, the portions vis a vis their price was not value for money for this mom of 4 though. The piggery were not satisfied . We ended up ordering a few more dishes , therefore increasing the average cost per person.
