Bean and Yolk. Two absolutely essential ingredients I can not live without in the mornings…. Yesterday sans any breakfast, I travelled all the way to Westgate Filinvest Alabang via Zomato with other invited foodie friends for an event. Two coffee stops later, we found ourselves at Bean and Yolk for more caffeine and something a little more substantial to tide us over while waiting for the scheduled foodie meet up to begin. We were an hour early.
Trisha our Zomato friend recommended B & Y. The name alone evoked images of things my brain needed to kickstart my day. Yes , one can never have enough coffee beans nor eggs for breakfast. Bean and Yolk is located at the 2nd floor of West Gate Alabang. It was one of those places foodies would gravitate to . Two words : gram-perfect. It was a quiet kind of appeal. 
All pastels and light wood, open kitchen, gadget-ready outlets on the floor… 
A mix of whimsy with country style chairs and tables along with ergonomically designed chairs… 
Pastel blue and light-wood themed….

It had to be a light meal. We shall be enjoying an Italian feast in less than an hour. So we decided to order just 3 items… 
Almond Turmeric Latte anyone ? Yes it smelled like your typical curried dish. Your grey matter needs a little fine tuning with this one. It is an intriguing albeit confusing kind of drink that both repels and attracts because of its strange yellow color and misplaced aroma. So I took a sip. Three words : curry milky coffee Did I like it? It was not bad.I would recommend you order it once just to experience it

You or your kids would definitely channel Agnes (Despicable me) when you get a mouthful of this.
Yes this is what I call breakfast. It made me happy just looking at it. This plate of Ricotta Pancakes P305 was beautiful. It was a dainty kind of cake with its light color and that shock of purple from that edible flower on top. It is reminiscent of the pancake souffle my friends and I enjoyed at Le Petit Souffle.
This version though was better because of that quenelle of chantilly cream along with ricotta, banana brulee , sliced almonds and 100% maple syrup. Do not forget to drizzle all that pure maple goodness all over everything….yum!
That beautifully spooned whipped cream aka chantilly cream was silky and rich, it perfectly complemented that fluffy pancakes.
Traditionally, the word “quenelle” refers to a small, oval-shaped dumpling of poached fish or meat, but today, chefs form everything from ice cream to mashed potatoes into this distinctive dumpling shape. In the Devil’s Food Cake Verrines, quenelles made of chocolate mousse add an extra touch of elegance to the dessert.
B & Y also have the familiar drinks we know like this Latte P150. It was beautifully presented with a simple latte art. Coffee was robust which I liked.
Overall…
Bean and Yolk is my dream cafe. If ever I do put up a restaurant, I want something simple with well curated ingredients ie “brown eggs, nitrate free meat, organic black rice, fresh vegetables, home made sauces”…. just like B& Y Oh did I mention that they partnered with Common Man Roasters of Singapore for their coffee? Love what I tasted so far. We only ordered 3 items but I enjoyed all of them . Looking forward to trying more items on the menu. So sad they closed their Poblacion branch. Here’s to wishing they open a new branch somewhere in BGC. Fingers crossed… 🙂
BEAN & YOLK is located at Westgate Hub Westgate Center Filinvest City Muntinlupa. They are open from 8am onwards.
