“Uniting everyone with a common love for good food “

This foodie mom of  4 (collectively called piggery lovingly) is always on the look out for value for money and quality buffet. When your children have bottomless appetites  ,  buffet is the only  way to go.

Last  Thursday,  I was privileged to attend  a media launch to this new buffet place in  Poblacion Makati.

I’M HOTEL , a 5 STAR HOTEL  best known for its humongous 3800 sq meter spa and ONSEN across 6 storeys,  recently launched THE COMMON GOOD , a buffet restaurant with 9 dining concepts.

But first why THE COMMON GOOD ?

Per I’M HOTEL –

“THE COMMON GOOD aims to make the common denominator of  all guests’ experience good food. Instead of a menu heavy on excessively expensive ingredients, the chef’s aim is to focus on commonly found local and seasonal ingredients, elevating them in a display of true culinary mastery. The result is a delicious, yet accessibly priced menu with the freshest components. The variety of dining concepts and  dishes  on rotation also ensures that no two visits are the same, yet each time, the quality of cuisine remains consistently high “

Why the tagline  THE FOOD PLAYGROUND ?

Per I’M HOTEL –

“It is termed as a food playground to invite guests to indulge and interact with the delectable eats on offer, in the hopes that guests can appreciate one of life’s simple pleasures with a sense of childlike wonder “

There are 9  Dining Concepts.  We were served a representative dish for each station sort of like an amuse bouche (if you will)  offering us a preview into the chef’s approach to the cuisine.

9 Featured Signature Dishes  to Complement the Buffet

PAUL & RANUKA

Green Egg Sandwich

Introductory price of P290+ when ordered ala carte

Hurray for this station! I think this is the first I heard of  incorporating healthy dishes in a buffet. Individuals who are in to Vegan, Keto and Paleo  lifestyles will be overjoyed  to know  that a specific station was created just for them.

I  loved the creaminess of the  avocado , the acidity from the freshly roasted red tomatoes, the salsa verde, the nuttiness of  the asparagus spears and the fleshy-sour-saltiness of the black olives.  That gluten free sourdough bread is  crunchy and chewy which I really enjoyed. It was the perfect platform to showcase that  green egg salad creation.

HEALTHY ENZYME DRINK

can be ordered ala carte at its introductory price P300

Similar to kombucha, the organic  fruits are fermented so that natural sugars are released along with probiotics. There is no alcohol in it. The drink was quite refreshing and invigorating and matches well with the green egg sandwich

TIFFIN

Roti Paratha (P120+introductory price)  and Prawn Masala

(introductory price P320+ when ordered ala carte)

This second dining concept is all about Indian food. One can not get more authentic than an Indian cuisine crafted by a Sri Lankan Chef with some herbs and spices shipped  directly from India. If you are not into Indian food but would like a taste of it, this is your perfect introduction to the cuisine.

Roti Paratha

“Roti” means bread and “paratha”  or “pratha” means flat in Hindi. It is a flatbread that is crunchy outside and soft inside. It is made by frying stretched dough with ghee or the Indian Clarified butter. Think pancake but flatter and denser.

Prawn Masala
Prawn Masala is a simple Indian Dish with tons of flavor. I tasted all the herbs and spices that is rounded all up by two pieces of succulent prawns that were fresh and sweet and made more scrumptious with that fabulous Masala

AL DENTE

Sisig Pizza (Introductory price P400+ when ordered ala carte)

Italian Rustic  Classic with tweaks of  Pan-Asian Influences.

Think Lechon Rucolina, Sisig Pizza and Salted Egg Pasta

This is not your ordinary Italian Pizza.  What was served was a Turkish flat bread with our very own sisig for toppings.  The flat bread was a little dense and heavy for me . The sisig was our familiar iconic dish with cheese and tomato sauce. Think “italianize” sisig with Turkish undertones

PERFECT FOUR

Nasi Lemak (introductory price P290+ when ordered ala carte)

This is a station where guests can choose their own rice combinations. They can take their pick from the proteins, veggies, fiber available to create their perfect bowl.  Signature items include Salt and Pepper Pork Ribs, Braised Tofu in Mushrooms and Nasi Lemak

‘Nasi Lemak is a Malay fragrant rice cooked in coconut cream . It is the national dish of  Malaysia and is also popular in Singapore, Brunei ,  Thailand ‘ – wikipedia.

This dish is a complete meal by itself. I love coconut milk so I thoroughly enjoyed its flavor mixed with rice.

PARILLA

Open pit Peri Peri Roasted Chicken (introductory price P280+)

Parilla literally translated means grill. The concept is to  serve freshly grilled meat and seafoods. This is heaven for both carnivores and  pescatarians.

Amazing how the chicken marinated in South African secret recipe was juicy, moist and flavorful

ONE BOWL WONDER

Ebi Tendon (introductory price P245+ when ordered ala carte)

If you like Japanese food, this is your station.  They have classic Japanese Donburi along with Hongkong’s roast meats and rice toppings. One  ala carte order of  Ebi Tendon  comes with 3 pcs of  shrimp  served o top of Japanese rice,

This dining concept also has ramen and sushi  in its roster

EMPRESS JADE

Dimsum Platter (introductory price P400+ when ordered ala carte)

See also  What can diners expect from the One Michelin Star Putien in Manila?

This is your MODERN CHINESE CUISINE STATION. Signature  are Prawn Bee Hoon, Hokkien Mee and Dimsum Platter. Loved the made-from-scratch Shumai, Hakaw and seafood  bean curd roll.

commonmango-9371333

SUCRE

Honey Thick Toast (introductory price P190+ when ordered ala carte)

SUCRE is the French word for sugar. Sugar makes the world  a happy place. Yay! The display alone is enough to make you dance for joy. Those beautiful array of cakes and pastries are picture perfect. I want to take home the whole lot.

Served with  mango, banana, hazelnut, ginger and green tea, this Honey Thick Toast was the perfect sweet ending to an incredible 9 dining concept meal. But of course, if you want to explore and eat more dessert, go ahead and enjoy

commonguinumis-4254514

FOUNTAIN

Guinumis Granita (introductory price of P130+ when ordered ala carte)

Another sweet finale, this guinumis is a famous local dessert made of sago/tapioca  coconut cream and panutsa

Note : Signature dishes vary from time to time and are subject to the  Chef’s discretion.
